Popular Activities in Sri Lanka

Some of the popular activities that people renting or buying luxury villas in Sri Lanka will want to take part in include going to the beach and whale watching. Fortunately, there are numerous options available for both activities, giving you plenty of opportunity to take part in them.

As you might expect from an island nation, Sri Lanka has plenty of beaches to visit. Hikkaduwa Beach is known for all the extracurricular activities that it offers, such as boat rides, scuba diving, and snorkeling. Unawatuna Beach is perhaps the most popular beach on the island, mainly for being a center for beach parties. Arugam Bay Beach is a popular draw for surfers, having some of the highest waves of any beach on the island. Negombo Beach provides a bit more of a laid back atmosphere, and is popular for people just looking to take a stroll along the beach. Bentota Beach is another beach known for the large amount of extracurricular activities it offers, including scuba diving, deep sea fishing, water skiing, wind surfing, and boating of various types. Tangalle Beach offers a relaxing atmosphere for people who are looking to do some sunbathing away from all the activity found on the other beaches. Kalpitiya Beach is a big draw for people who enjoy whale watching, as boat tours are provided specifically for whale watching.

Speaking of whale watching, there are several opportunities to take part in whale watching tours in Sri Lanka. Raja & the Whales is a family-owned business that takes people out on their Queen of the Blue Whales boat to see the animals, as well as any other sea life you may encounter while out in the water. They provide whale watching tours all-year round. The Sri Lanka Navy offers whale watching opportunities aboard its Princess of Lanka passenger vessel. However, they are not offered all year round, and it is better to book ahead to ensure you get a place on the boat, otherwise you might miss out. Paradise Beach Mirissa offers whale watching tours from December to April, when the whales and other sea life tends to be the most active.
